How a Grudge match works

Pick your goal for the week — runs, lifts, rucks, anything you already track. Set your stake. Pick the branches you'd hate to fund.

Strava confirms the work. No honor system, no self-reporting, no one taking your word for it.
Show up — or pay up
Hit your number and nothing happens. Miss it and your squad votes where the money goes. You already know it's not going somewhere you like.
Your failure still helps a service family. Just theirs.
Forfeits go to the relief society of a branch that isn't yours:
- Army Emergency Relief
- Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society
- Air Force Aid Society
- Coast Guard Mutual Assistance
Academy athletic funds are available too, if your grudge runs that particular direction.
We keep none of it. Grudge doesn't make money when you fail — forfeits go out the door, net of card fees, and we publish every disbursement.
Your squad sees whether you showed up. Nothing else.
No routes. No maps. No activity detail. Squad-mates see a verdict — passed, missed, streak — and that's it. Your Strava data is visible only to you.
Privacy mode is on by default for military members. Your stake amount and recipient stay yours unless you choose otherwise.
You don't need GPS. Strength, cardio, HIIT, and time-based commitments verify without location data.
Your command's policy wins. If your unit or location restricts activity tracking, follow that — not us. Pick a commitment type that works within it.
Stakes cap at $20. You set the amount. Nobody else can raise it.
We don't collect rank. Not at signup, not ever. No rank in the app, no rank-based squads.
No unit dashboards, no readiness reports, no leadership visibility. Captains see exactly what every other member sees. We don't build tools for anyone to monitor anyone.

- What counts as verification?
- Device-recorded activities from Strava — watch or phone. Manual entries don't count. That's not us being difficult; it's what makes the stake mean something.
- What if Strava didn't sync in time?
- Every week has a 6-hour grace buffer, and you can appeal before anything is charged. Sync issues get excused.
- Can my squad see how much I staked?
- Not unless you turn privacy mode off. Default is on for military members.
- Do I get a tax deduction?
- No. The forfeit is a fee you owe under our terms; Grudge makes the contribution in its own name. You get a receipt showing where it went — not a deduction.
- What if I don't have a rival branch in mind?
- Then you're lying, but there are academy funds and sports rivals too.
- Is this gambling?
- No. Money never moves between members — no pot, no payout, nobody wins your money. You're making a contract with yourself in front of witnesses.
- Active duty — is this allowed?
- It's a personal fitness app with a self-set financial commitment. Follow your command's guidance on tracking apps and personal financial matters. We don't collect rank, don't report to anyone, and don't partner with units.
